The 8th Białystok-Kyiv Conference on Theoretical and Applied Linguistics

4-5 December 2025, Białystok, Poland

Linguistic Innovations in a Globally Interconnected World

The Białystok-Kyiv series of conferences on theoretical and applied linguistics, co-organized by the University of Białystok (Poland) and the Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University (Ukraine) was launched in 2017. The main goal of the initiative is to contribute significantly to the study of language in connection with the constant changes occurring in today’s world. The organizers’ aim is to focus on various dimensions of linguistics as related to a large number of disciplines within the humanities, the social sciences, and the arts.

We are pleased to announce a call for papers for the 8th Białystok-Kyiv Conference on Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, which will be held online at the University of Białystok, Poland, 4-5 December 2025

The conference is intended as a platform for scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds, particularly in relation to various research areas connected with language, including cognitive linguistics, contrastive linguistics, corpus linguistics, cultural linguistics, socio- and psycholinguistics, discourse analysis, language acquisition and learning, lexicology and lexicography, pragmatics, terminology and terminography, and translation studies. Proposals in other relevant research areas are also welcome. The conference is intended to explore both empirical and theoretical findings in linguistic research as well as their application in teaching.

The special theme, “Linguistic Innovations in a Globally Interconnected World,” aims to unite linguists, educators, researchers, and practitioners in exploring the latest developments in linguistics worldwide, especially the dynamic changes in English language that arise from our increasingly globalized society. This conference will showcase research and discussions on how technology, migration, and cultural exchange have led to the emergence of new linguistic trends, hybrid languages, and communication practices.

We invite contributions that explore, but are not limited to, the following themes:

– Innovative linguistic theories and their applications in language education

– Multilingualism and its impact on global communication

– Linguistic resources for enhancing language acquisition

– The role of technology in language learning and teaching

– Sociolinguistics in a global context

– Recent trends in lexicography

– Pragmatics and semantics in modern society

– Global English and migration, diasporic identities, and colonialism

– The effects of globalization on language change and maintenance

– AI applications in linguistic research, translation studies and language education

– Translation studies and globalization/localization

We also welcome submissions on other related topics that explore the intersections of linguistics with contemporary global issues.

Selected papers will be published in Crossroads: A Journal of English Studies, a Scopus-indexed journal linked to the Faculty of Philology, University of Białystok.
